Happiness

She spoke in waves of silence
Quiet only she could hear
Others barely noticed
That she was hardly ever there.
For they had used her at their will
And cared nothing when she fell
Broken, her heart a gaping hole
But somehow, somehow, she managed to keep herself whole.
Bit by bit, piece by piece,
She stitched herself together
And wondered why, when she was fresh again
They never acknowledged her presence.
She had yet to learn that in this life
There is no such thing as forever happiness
For happiness is fleeting;
It’s barely there at all.
And when you try to catch it
All it does is make you fall.

Hope

She held onto the sunset
Capturing its every ray in a glass
And hoped and hoped and hoped
That this perfect day would last.
But night was falling faster
Filling her with its hues
She whispered “no!” as the sunlight left the sky
For she knew that in the dark
The light would always be much harder to find
And for one already so black inside
She could not bear to leave the light behind.
